Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is the first book in the saga created by author J K Rowling and published in the United States in 1997. Since then it has been a huge success, telling the story of how young Harry Potter learns that he is a wizard and how his life changes radically.
Summary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
The play begins when Harry Potter is left as a baby on the doorstep of his aunt and uncle’s house by three wizards who comment that the darkest wizard has been defeated by Harry, who as a baby survived the curse of a powerful wizard who killed his parents. The story continues when the boy turned ten and still didn’t know he was a wizard.
However, strange things have been happening to him, he made a glass disappear at the zoo and his cousin fell just by thinking about it. Just before his birthday, he receives a letter from Hogwarts, the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but his uncle won’t let him see it and they move to a house in the middle of nowhere so that Harry can’t be found.
On his birthday, however, a man called Hagrid appeared at the house, bringing him a cake and telling him about the invitation to go to the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He was surprised that Harry didn’t know he was a wizard or who his parents were. That same day, Harry went with Hagrid to buy the things he needed to start his wizarding studies and learned that his parents had left him a large fortune.
Then they went to bank vault 713 and Hagrid looked for a mysterious parcel he didn’t want to tell Harry about. On the train to Hogwarts, Harry meets Ronald Weasley and they are both in the same house, Gryffindor, after being chosen by the Sorting Hat. A few days later, Harry and Ron accidentally entered the Forbidden Room on the third floor and found a three-headed dog. They were punished and had to accompany Hagrid to the Dark Forest. There they came across unicorn blood. Harry saw someone drinking the blood and remembered Hagrid telling him they drank it to stay alive.
The man attacked Harry, but was saved by a Centaur who told them that the Philosopher’s Stone, which would give them eternal life, was hidden in the school. Ron, Harry and Hermione concluded that the three-headed man was guarding something, and they were sure it was the stone.
They returned to the third floor and managed to put the three-headed butler to sleep; they entered the place and encountered certain obstacles which they overcame. Harry met Professor Quirrell, the author. He saw in the mirror the face of Voldemort, who tried to manipulate him into handing over the stone, but failed. There was even a fire and Harry managed to defeat the Dark Lord.
Harry woke up unconscious in the hospital. Later, during the year-end celebrations, Slytherin had won. However, when the extra points for merit were added in, Gryffindor won the House Cup. This is the end of the story, which continues in the second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is a film based on the book by J.K. Rowling, it tells the story of an orphaned boy who does not know that he is a wizard until he is ten years old and receives an invitation to Hogwarts. From that moment on, he experiences various adventures and dangers that change the course of his life. It is a fantasy and adventure film released in 1998. It was a great success and won several awards in the UK.

The main characters are
Harry Potter: He is the main character of the book, a white boy with black hair and a scar on his forehead. His parents were killed when he was a baby and he had to live with his evil uncles until he learnt he was a wizard and went to Hogwarts, the school of magic and wizardry.
Lord Voldemort: Also known as the Dark Lord, he was the one who killed Harry Potter’s parents. He is looking for the Philosopher’s Stone so that he can have eternal life and then kill Potter.
Ronald Weasley: a red-haired, unassuming boy, the youngest of his siblings, he has always belonged to Gryffindor and could not be left behind.
Hermione Granger: she is an intelligent and studious girl, her parents are Muggles, i.e. they are not wizards. She is Harry Potter’s best friend. See also Twilight the book

Each book in the saga has been made into a film, with the exception of the last book, which was made into two separate films. This made a total of 8 films, making the fantastic stories of the books even more popular for those who love the films.
